Are you tired of seeing weeds in your yard? Is your grass not growing correctly? Here at DC Lawn and Landscape, we have over 14 years of professional experience. We can assess the problem and find the perfect solution. We are here to introduce the 4 main types of grass that are best to use for lawns in South Alabama. They are as follows: Bermuda, Centipede, St. Augustine, and Zoysia. Each of these has its own pros and cons.
Bermuda grass is drought- and salt-tolerant. This makes a good choice for bay and ocean properties. It is also a good choice for hot climates: however, it does require irrigation to help keep its dark green in color. Bermuda grass grows fast due to a fantastic root system but it does not grow well in shaded areas.
Centipede grass is also a great choice for hot climates. This grass excels in southeastern states. It requires little maintenance and little water. It will produce a lighter green lawn. Centipede grass tends to grow more slowly than Bermuda grass. It does okay in light shaded areas. This is not an ideal grass for being walked or played on daily.
St. Augustine grass has a high tolerance for heat and humidity which makes it an ideal for lawns in South Alabama. This grass is not very drought tolerant and requires watering a couple times a week once established. This grass is thick and rough. St. Augustine grass ranges from light to dark green in color.
Zoysia grass has a good heat tolerance but it does not tolerate shade well. It requires low maintenance and little water and is drought resistant. The color ranges from light to medium green. Zoysia grass tends to grow more slowly than Bermuda grass.
